Q.  Why should I see a specialist?

A.  Although most treatments are possible in General Dental Practice, it may be advisable to see a specialist if:

  • Your dental condition is complex or at an advanced stage
  • You have multiple conditions affecting your mouth
  • The treatment required necessitates specialist skills and equipment
  • You and your dentist prefer
  • To get the best outcomes for certain types of treatment

Q.  Do I still need to see my dentist?
A.  You should continue to see your dentist for routine care

Q.  How do I arrange an appointment?
A.  You can be referred by your dentist through a letter, or contact us directly. Appointments can be arranged by e-mail or phone, please refer to the 'contact us' page. Appointments may be available on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and sometimes on Saturday mornings by special arrangement.

Q.  What are the charges?
A.  The consultation charge usually varies between £100-200 dependent upon the time taken. This includes x-rays if needed, but does not include specialist scans. If treatment is recommended you will be given a written estimate of the charges and given time to decide.

Q. What will happen during my consultation?
A.  You will be asked about the problems you have with your mouth, and about your general health and habits. A thorough detailed examination will take place, which may include x-rays and other special investigations if required. Your treatment options will be discussed with you and you will be given (or posted) treatment options and cost estimates. This usually takes place over one appointment, but in some cases may require a further appointment.

Q. What if I decide against treatment?
A . If you decide against any treatment advised, there is no obligation to proceed and you will be advised to continue to see your dentist for routine care. You will still be expected to pay for the consultation, as well as any treatment that has already been carried out.

Q. What if I am nervous?
A.  Nervous patients are welcomed, and we aim to make you as relaxed and comfortable as possible. If you are nervous we advise you let us know at the time of booking or when you attend so that we can put you at ease. If it is required for treatment, sedation can be arranged and you should enquire about this if you feel it is necessary for you.
